Reading Guided Reading is conducted in a small group setting where students learn how to process a variety of increasingly challenging texts with understanding and fluency at their instructional level. Math The goal of Guided Math is for students to become proficient mathematicians and to have conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and mathematical confidence. In guided math groups, the teacher's main role is to watch, observe, coach, and assess. The teacher also models and prompts the students work. During guided math, students work on "just right" problems in their zone of proximal development.
